Nick Lykiardopulo, the former director of Lykiardopulo & Co. has been in court recently getting divorced from his now ex-wife.

The pair were at the head of one of the oldest shipping empires in the country and the company’s estimated wealth is up around £100m. The couple split up and with a company worth as much as Lykiardopulo & Co you wouldn’t be far wrong in saying that it would inevitably be an expensive divorce.

However, the divorce settlement turned a little nasty when it was found that Mr. Lykiardopulo was found to have lied to the court along with his side of the Anglo-Greek family and they even went to the extent to produce false documents in order to lie about how much he was actually worth, to avoid any kind of large payout to his soon to be ex-wife.

Mr. Lykiardopulo is a former director of the family shipping business Lykiardopulo and Co. The business was started by Nick’s great-grandfather on the island of Kefalonia, also the setting for the world famous novel, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.

After the divorce was agreed, it was agreed by the judge that an anonymity would be placed on the names of those involved claiming that it would affect the family’s business interests and the wealth of the family business and also that it could affect his health and that his children would be “mortified” if the names got out.

After appealing to the appeals court, Mrs Lykiardopulo was successful in having the anonymity order lifted. However with limited publicity following the event it appears to have hardly affected the family’s wealth. If anything the family run company seem to have benefitted.
